Delhi, May 18: The campaign for the fifth phase of general elections will end this evening. Voting is to be held on May 20 for 49 seats in eight states and union territories. The fate of 695 candidates on these seats will be decided in EVMs.
In the fifth phase, voting is to be held in six states Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Odisha, Jharkhand and two union territories Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh. These include 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 13 in Maharashtra, seven in West Bengal, five each in Bihar and Odisha.
Apart from this, voting is also to be held on three seats of Jharkhand, one seat each of Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh in this phase. As soon as the fifth phase of voting is completed, voting will be completed on 428 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats in the country. This step is very important. In this, the reputation of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and union Minister Smriti Irani is at stake.
