Prayagraj, 11 April: An official announced on Tuesday that extortion charges had been filed against gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his son. Atiq Ahmad, who was detained at Gujarat’s Sabarmati Central Prison, is being taken to Prayagraj by the Uttar Pradesh Police to face charges in a separate case. He and his family are also suspected of involvement in the recent assassination of Umesh Pal, a witness to the 2005 murder of BSP Raju Pal. The most recent case was filed at the Dhoomanganj police station on Monday, according to the officer.
According to Deepak Bhuker, Deputy Commissioner of Police (city), a lawsuit was filed against Atiq Ahmad, his son Ali, Asad Kalia, Shakeel, Shakir, Sabi Abbas, Faizan, Saif, Naami, Affan, Mahmood, Maood, and Aslam Mantri (Atiq’s cousin) on the basis of a complaint filed by Sabir Hussain. Among other things, the case was filed under IPC sections 147 (penalty for rioting), 148 (rioting while armed with a lethal weapon), 307 (attempt to kill), and 386 (extortion by placing a person in dread of death or grave harm). The term “responsibility” refers to the act of determining whether or not a person is responsible for his or her own actions. “On February 15, 2023, at approximately 7.30 pm, Atiq’s cousin Aslam Mantri and Asad Kalia came to my residence and told me that Atiq ‘bhaai’ had called me to Gujarat,” Sabir Hussain alleged in his complaint. ?When I refused to accompany them, they began shouting insults at me, beating me up, and demanding Rs 1 lakh,” he added.
“If I didn’t pay, they threatened to murder me. Before to this, on April 14, 2019, Ali (Atiq’s son), Asad Kalia, Shakeel, Shakir, Sabi Abbas, Faizan, Saif, Naami, Affan, Mahmood, Maood, and Aslam Mantri (Atiq’s cousin) requested that I call Atiq. They also asked for Rs 1 crore,” he stated. A few days ago, police booked Atiq Ahmad, his wife Shaista Parveen, and their son Ali in connection with the murder of Umesh Pal. The FIR was filed on April 8 at the Dhoomanganj police station in Prayagraj, and two additional suspects ? Mohammad Sabir and Rakesh alias Nakesh alias Lala ? have been identified, according to a statement from the Prayagraj police.
Police had held Rakesh for interrogation during the investigation into Umesh Pal’s murder, according to the statement. Umesh Pal and his two police security guards were shot dead outside his residence in Prayagraj’s Dhoomanganj on February 24.
