New Delhi, July 6: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested five people including the Railway Manager (DRM) of South Division Central Railway on charges of bribery.
The CBI gave this information on Saturday. The CBI said that Gutkanal Division DRM Vineet Singh, Senior Divisional Finance Manager Kunda Pradeep Babu, Senior Divisional Engineer U Akki Reddy, Office Superintendent M Bala Ji and Accounts Assistant D Lakshmi Pati Raju have been arrested in the bribery case of Rs 11 lakh.
A CBI spokesperson said that apart from the five accused, Kuppam Naresh Kumar Reddy of CNR Projects India Private Limited Company of Bengaluru and a middleman N Rahmatulla of Hyderabad have also been detained. During the investigation, the team has recovered objectionable documents and digital equipment during raids in Guntakal, Anantapur, Nellore, Tirupati, Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Bengaluru.
According to the CBI, the Federal Investigation Agency (FBI) has registered a case against 13 people including seven accused arrested in the case of large-scale corruption in allotment of tenders in the South Central Division and CNR Projects India Private Limited.
The CBI spokesperson said that it is alleged that public servants were involved in corrupt practices of giving various tenders under their jurisdiction and paying inflated bills of contractors. Due to which they got wrong benefits and the government treasury suffered loss. The
CBI alleges that DRM Vineet Singh had demanded 0.5 percent of the total amount of bribe in the form of gold jewellery as bribe. The senior divisional engineer had demanded Rs 20 lakh as bribe.
According to the CBI, during the raid, the CBI team seized Rs 10 lakh given as bribe to the divisional finance manager and Rs 50,000 each given to the office superintendent and accounting assistant.
