Rishikesh, 24 August: The CBI team has been interrogating doctors and officials of the purchase committee since yesterday in connection with the rigging of medical equipment in AIIMS, Rishikesh, Uttarakhand.

The CBI has registered a case against eight persons, including an AIIMS professor and the son of a former Bihar minister, in connection with irregularities in the purchase of medical equipment in AIIMS, Rishikesh, during the years 2019 and 2020. Due to irregularities in the purchase of medical equipment, AIIMS has lost about Rs 6 crore.
It is being told that after registering a case in the capital on Monday, the CBI raided the houses of several people, including the professor of AIIMS, throughout the day on Wednesday and scrutinised the documents. During this, the CBI team has also taken many important documents into its possession.
In addition, the team took two people to a secret location and interrogated them for hours. It is being told that on March 31, a team of CBI and SB (Anti-Corruption) reached AIIMS to investigate the allegations of serious irregularities in the purchase of medical equipment in AIIMS, Rishikesh.
It was alleged that the authorities of AIIMS Rishikesh procured advanced vessel sealing equipment at exorbitant prices during the years 2019 and 20, causing huge losses to AIIMS and profits to the firm. It is being told that the said firm had never participated in the bidding process.
AIIMS issued a tender for the equipment on August 24, 2018. This tender was opened on October 12, 2018, and the following three firms were found eligible during administrative evaluation, but later the equipment was procured from an unauthorised firm that did not participate in the bidding process, and the equipment was procured from There were neither authorised nor dealers for this. Not only this, but the said firm had never made any such supply to any medical institution. The said firm used to trade only in medicines.
AIIMS had suffered a loss of more than 6 crores in this entire purchase. It is alleged that Dr Balaram Ji Umar, convenor of the Equipment Purchase Committee, misused his powers to benefit the procurement agency, in which AIIMS, Rishikesh, suffered a loss of about 6.57 crores.
The CBI raided Dr Balram and Nikhil’s residence in Rishikesh on Wednesday after registering a case on August 21 against seven named and one unknown, including an AIIMS professor. Many officers and accused have gone into hiding on the information of the raid.
One of the accused, Nikhil, is said to be the son of Narayan Prasad, the former tourism minister of the Bihar government. A case was registered against Nikhil in Rishikesh Kotwali earlier as well.
