New Delhi, June 20: The Central Government has allowed the export of 2,000 metric tonnes of non-basmati white rice to two African countries Malawi and Zimbabwe. According to the notification, both these countries have been allowed to export one thousand metric tonnes of non-basmati rice each.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has said in a notification that Malawi and Zimbabwe have been approved to export 2 thousand metric tonnes of non-basmati white rice.
According to the notification, export has been allowed through National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL). Under this, one thousand metric tonnes of non-basmati rice will be exported to both these countries.
It is worth noting that the export of non-basmati white rice is banned from July 20, 2023 to boost domestic supply and control prices. But on request, the government has approved exports to some countries to meet their food security needs.
Earlier, the Indian government has allowed such exports to countries like Nepal, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Malaysia, Philippines and Seychelles.
