New Delhi, April 10: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has introduced the facility of WhatsApp on number 7217735372 for complaints of domestic violence during the lockdown imposed due to COVID-19.
However, the Commission’s 7217735372 number will have only WhatsApp facility. There is no call and SMS facility available on this number. This number will be valid only till the lockdown period, after which it will be closed.
Chairperson of NCW Rekha Sharma said that the victims of domestic violence are not able to come out of the house during the lockdown, so for their convenience, the commission has introduced a WhatsApp number. With this number, the Commission’s e-mail and telephone facilities will continue to run smoothly. Victims of domestic violence can register their complaints on this number, on which the commission will take action.
Rekha Sharma informed that the complaints of domestic violence have increased by 100 per cent during the lockdown period over the last few weeks. There were 33 reported cases of domestic violence in the first week of lockdown, which has increased the number of complaints to 69 in the week following the lockdown. Most of these cases have come from northern India. In this case, the NCW is assessing such complaints in detail in the event of lockdown.
