Delhi, 21 December: The government has taken the decision to entrust the security of Parliament building complex to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in the wake of a recent security breach.

In an effort to enhance security measures, the CISF will now be responsible for access control, similar to airport security procedures, where visitors will be frisked through hand-held detectors and their belongings will be checked through X-ray machines.

The CISF will also have the authority to scan shoes, heavy jackets and belts. This responsibility was previously undertaken by Delhi Police personnel. The decision was made after two individuals breached the security and caused chaos in the Lok Sabha chamber on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack.

The union home ministry has directed for a survey of the complex so that a regular deployment of CISF security and fire wing can be implemented. Members of Parliament’s Watch and Ward security will also undergo training at a CISF centre.

Experts from CISF’s government building security unit and fire combat officers, along with current Parliament security officials, will undertake the survey to determine the number of personnel required and their roles.
