Delhi, 14 December: Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud refused to adjourn the hearing on the bail plea of AAP leader Satyendar Kumar Jain in a money laundering case listed before another bench headed by Justice Bela M Trivedi on Thursday.

CJI Chandrachud stated that the judge concerned will make the decision and he cannot interfere in the matter. Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Jain, requested for a deferment of the proposed hearing by the Justice Trivedi-led bench, citing that a different bench had already heard substantial arguments in the case.

However, CJI Chandrachud declined to take any decision and stated that he cannot control what the judge concerned is doing in the matter listed before her. Jain, who is currently out on interim bail on health grounds, had moved the top court for bail.

The Supreme Court had granted him interim bail on medical grounds for six weeks on May 26, which has been extended since then. The matter is scheduled to be heard on Thursday before a bench comprising Justice Trivedi and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma.
