SRINAGAR, JULY 08: A cloudburst triggered flood near the holy cave of Amarnath killed 13 pilgrims while the injured were being airlifted.
At least 25 tents have been washed away by the flood waters, in which 40 devotees are feared to be washed away. All agencies related to disaster management including NDRF, SDRF are involved in the rescue operation.
Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbag Singh issued a statement saying that the bodies of 13 pilgrims have been recovered so far in the cloudburst incident near the Amarnath cave. Rescue operation is on.
According to the information, the incident of cloudburst took place at around 5.30 pm. The cloudburst caused flash floods in which 13 pilgrims have been confirmed dead while five people have been rescued. Around 40 pilgrims are missing during this period. More than two dozen tents and three langars have been washed away by the floods.
Senior officials said that apart from the security forces, teams of police, NDRF and SDRF are engaged in relief and rescue work. Disaster management teams are taking passengers to safer places and the injured are being airlifted.
