Lucknow, 30 December: People are likely to welcome the new year 2023 in shivering cold due to the impact of strong winds and dense fog. The havoc of cold continues in the capital Lucknow.
Lucknow was enveloped in fog and cold on Friday. Visibility dropped to zero for the first time in the season on Thursday. The fog started at 3 o’clock on Wednesday late at night. At that time there was 500-meter visibility. After this, visibility reached zero at 8.30 am. This was the situation for half an hour.
Today visibility started increasing after nine o’clock. Around 11 am the fog started clearing and the sun came out, but it remained cloudy. Between 12 to 12:30 in the afternoon, the sun gave some relief to the people.
Chances of drizzle have also been expressed by the Meteorological Department in some places. After this, the cold conditions will further increase.
Atul Kumar Singh, senior scientist of Zonal Meteorology Center said that due to a decrease in wind speed, there was fog in Lucknow. The maximum visibility was 800 metres. The capital remained in the grip of extreme fog from 7 am to 9 am. Visibility became zero at 8:30. This is known as very dense fog, due to which solar radiation cut-off (reflected rays from the fog layer) has led to a drop of 1.4 ?C in the maximum temperature during the day.
The weather is expected to remain like this for the next two days. On Thursday, the maximum temperature was 20.8 and the minimum temperature was 7.4 degree Celsius. In the new year, there will be extremely cold.
The Meteorological Department of Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA) has issued a warning that the temperature may go down further due to icy winds.
The maximum temperature of Kanpur dropped by 1.4 degrees to 21.4 degrees on Thursday as compared to Wednesday, while the minimum temperature dropped by 1.2 degrees to 5.8 on Thursday amidst the bitter cold. The chill has increased due to the drop in temperature.
The Meteorological Department believes that after the snowfall in the hilly areas, the cold during the night and morning in the next 24 hours in the plains will increase the difficulties of the people. At the same time, with increasing cold at night, now air pollution is also continuously reaching dangerous levels.
A flight kept hovering in the air for 30 minutes in Varanasi. Landing permission was not granted due to thick fog. At last, the flight had to return to Mumbai with 150 passengers on board. Weak sunlight is proving ineffective due to severe cold and extremely cold winds.
