Lucknow, June 25: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, recalling the Emergency, said that the faces of the Congress party may have changed but its basic character is the same as that of 1975. Even today they curse the Constitution of India, Indian democracy and they have no concern with the country and the people of the country.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while talking to journalists at his official residence here on Tuesday, said that exactly 50 years ago, on this day late at night, a black chapter was written, when the then Congress government conspired to completely end democracy by strangling the Constitution of India. On 25 June 1975, in the darkness of the night, the Congress government led by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi tried to destroy the democracy of India. All the leaders of the opposition parties of that time were put in jail. They tried to strangle democracy by putting all the opposition leaders including Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Morarji Desai, Jayaprakash Narayan, Lal Krishna Advani in jail.
Yogi further said today, when we remember the Emergency after 50 years, naturally the faces in the Congress would have changed but its character is the same. The barbaric face of the Congress that was seen in 1975 is still there today. They worked to destroy the soul of the Constitution. They restricted the fundamental rights of the citizens of the country. They kept the rights of the court hostage. Even today, the leadership in the Congress party may have changed but its character is the same. They (Congress) cry for democracy but when they go outside India, they put the democracy of India in the dock. They raise questions on the election system of India. When they go outside the country, they curse India and its democracy. They try to create obstacles in every election process in India and try to put the blame of their inefficiency on others.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that just two years after adopting the Constitution, Congress tried to challenge the integrity of the country by implementing Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. Not only this, they sometimes imposed restrictions on the media, sometimes on the leaders and in other ways tried to weaken all the pillars of democracy. Today they appeal for democracy. Those people who raised their voice against the atrocities of Congress, went to jail and suffered all kinds of tortures, today their own people have sat in the lap of Congress. Congress is still working in the same way.
Yogi stated that in the states where Congress is in power or whether it is the TMC government in Bengal, or the governments of its allies in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, looking at their working methods, it can be said that the same barbaric face of Congress is still in front. Even today these people are misleading the public. They are disrupting the proceedings of Parliament in the name of the Constitution. Those people should look inside themselves and see if they had truly followed the Constitution. The people of the country will never forgive Congress. On completion of 50 years of Emergency, Congress should apologize to the people of the country.
