Varanasi, 28 January: Sigra Stadium on Saturday reverberated with the chantings of ?Har Har Mahadev? and ?Jai Shree Ram? and non-stop commentary in Sanskrit on Saturday when batuks in dhoti-kurta played cricket.
The occasion was the Sanskrit cricket competition, in which Batuks sometimes hit sixes with the bat and sometimes ran for runs wearing dhoti.
When Sampoornanand came down to play cricket wearing dhoti-kurta on the ground of Sanskrit University, everyone kept watching. In the first match, the team of Chandramouli Trust defeated the team of Challasubba Rao Ved Vidyalaya by 26 runs. After the victory, the team of Chandramouli Trust announced Har Har Mahadev.
Iti dand kantuk kridayam means the game of cricket is starting now. Pratham Kanduk Prakeshpakam means the first ball was thrown. Along with this, while hitting fours-sixes, cover drives, pull shots and forward shots, the waving saffron robes of the players were very attractive to the people. It was quite interesting to see batuks running fast in dhoti-kurta and driving to catch the ball.
Match organizer Pawan Shukla said that this is the first stadium in country where the cricket match in Sanskrit language is being held. This is the most unique Sanskrit match organized here by Shastrath Mahavidyalaya on the occasion of the institute’s anniversary.
Children are playing the match in traditional uniforms of India. Veda in one hand and cricket bat-ball in the other. Four teams are participating in this tournament. Students of Shastrath Mahavidyalaya, International Chandramouli Trust, Chellashastri Ved-Vedang Mahavidyalaya and Satua Baba Sanskrit Vidyalaya are taking part in the match.
