Jaunpur, 13 May: A journalist resident of Sabarhad village under Shahganj Kotwali police station was shot dead by three unknown miscreants riding a bike on Monday morning. Ashutosh Srivastava, a resident of Sabarhad in Shahganj Kotwali area, left home on Monday morning. At some distance, miscreants riding a bike opened fire at him, killing him on the spot.

The people present on the spot hurriedly ran to the hospital with Ashutosh, where the doctor declared him dead. The family members say that they had already informed the police that their lives were in danger. If the police had taken cognizance on time, lives could have been saved. The police have taken the body into their custody and sent it for postmortem.

Family members say that Ashutosh Srivastava had written a letter to CO Shahganj and Police Station Incharge Shahganj a month ago, telling him that his life was in danger. He appealed for security, but the police paid no attention, nor was any consideration given to Ashutosh’s application. People are also protesting by blocking the road.

As soon as information about the incident was received, Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma and forces from nearby police stations also reached the spot. So far, no information has been given by the police officials regarding the incident.
