Mainpuri, March 18: The verdict in the Dehuli massacre case came on Tuesday after 44 years. Special robbery court judge Indra Singh convicted three dacoits Ramsevak, Captain Singh and Rampal and sentenced them to death.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each on the convicts. After getting the sentence, the convicts broke down in tears in the court. The police have sent all the three convicts to jail.
Government advocate Rohit Shukla said that on the evening of November 18, 1981, at around 5 pm, armed miscreants entered the village and attacked the Dalit settlement in Dehuli. They fired indiscriminately, killing 24 people, including women, children and the elderly.
On November 19, Layak Singh, a resident of Dehuli, lodged an FIR in Jasrana police station against 17 people including notorious dacoit Radheshyam alias Radhe, Santosh Chauhan alias Santosha. When the police filed a charge sheet in the court, the hearing began. In this, 13 accused have died. One accused is absconding.
According to the government advocate, on March 11, the dacoity court had convicted the three accused of mass murder and fixed March 18 as the date for the verdict.
On Tuesday, the accused Captain Singh, Ramsevak and Rampal appeared in the court. The judge has sentenced all three accused to death. The court considered the massacre to be very heinous. He has written in his order that when the culprits are hanged by putting a noose around their neck until they die. The age of all the three accused is around 75-80 years.
The government of the state was shaken when the massacre took place 44 years ago in village Dehuli. Many big leaders including the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and opposition leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee had also reached out to the victims and shared their pain. At the time when the incident happened, village Dehuli used to be a part of Mainpuri district. But later when Firozabad became a new district, the village was included in this district.
