Delhi HC allows ‘controversial’ scribe Rana Ayyub to go abroad

New Delhi, April 04: Delhi High Court has allowed controversial journalist Rana Ayyub to go abroad. Justice Chandradhari Singh has allowed Rana Ayyub to go abroad with certain conditions.

During the hearing, senior advocate Vrinda Grover, appearing for Rana Ayyub, had said that Ayyub is a journalist and she has to go to London and Italy to attend international events.

He had said that Ayyub was cooperating with the ED in the investigation. The documents sought by the ED’s Delhi office were in Mumbai’s zonal office. Later, the zonal office of Mumbai sent those documents directly to the ED office of Delhi. After that the ED office of Delhi did not issue any notice. Immigration at the airport cleared the passport, but was stopped just before the flight took off.

On behalf of the ED, ASG SV Raju had said that there are serious allegations of misappropriation of more than one crore rupees against Rana Ayyub. There are serious allegations of misappropriation of money in the name of relief work against him. He has shown a fake bill. The documents which were asked from him were not given but other documents were handed over.

Rana Ayyub had challenged the ED’s order banning him from going out of the country. Rana Ayyub was to visit London and Italy on April 1. A lookout circular was issued against him by the ED. She was supposed to board a London flight on March 29 last, but was stopped at Mumbai airport due to the issuance of a lookout circular. ED is probing a money laundering case against Rana Ayyub.

The petition said that Job writes in the Washington Post. Dissent has an important place in a democracy. The ED’s action is only an attempt to suppress the voice of dissent. In the petition, Rana Ayyub had demanded the cancellation of the lookout circular issued against her.
