New Delhi, 02 June: Education and Skill Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday, released the University Grants Commission (UGC) Regulations, 2023.
Speaking on the occasion, Pradhan said that the UGC (Institutions of Deemed to be Universities) Regulations, 2023, will facilitate the creation of many more quality-oriented deemed universities in an objective and transparent manner. The new simplified guidelines will encourage universities to focus on quality and excellence, strengthen the research ecosystem and make a long-term impact in transforming our higher education landscape.
The Minister appreciated the UGC for this timely reform in line with the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020.
Salient Features of the Rules:
Sponsoring bodies desirous of granting Deemed University status to their institutions may apply ‘Online’. The expert committee assesses the facilities. Institutions deemed to be universities with a minimum ‘A’ grade and above or a rank of 1 to 100 in the “Universities” category of the NIRF ranking of the relevant year are eligible to set up off-campus centres. Institutions declared as universities under a “separate category” can apply for off-campus after five years of their declaration if they are accredited with A grade or are among the top 100 in NIRF’s “Universities” category.
Regulations are quality-oriented. Deemed universities having rank above 100 in the current NIRF ranking (category of universities) or having NAAC less than ‘A’ grade on academic parameters will be monitored by a UGC expert committee.
In case of failure to rectify the deficiencies pointed out by the UGC Committee, the UGC may withdraw the permission granted by the Deemed University Institution in any field to start new courses or new programs in their existing campus and approved off-campus centre. can recommend.
