New Delhi, 21 November: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) on Tuesday issued an advisory to television channels asking them to avoid sensationalizing the ongoing rescue operation in Silkyara, Uttarakhand. Along with this, do not make any live post or video from near the tunnel site where the rescue work is going on, this may hamper the rescue work.

The advisory issued by the ministry said the government is in constant touch with the workers stranded in the two-kilometre stretch of the tunnel and is making all efforts to maintain their morale. Various government agencies are working tirelessly to rescue the 41 workers. The operation going on around the tunnel is a very sensitive place, in which many lives are being saved. TV channels broadcast video footage and other images related to the operation, especially when cameras and other equipment are placed in close proximity as they may hamper rescue operations.

The Ministry has advised TV channels to exercise caution and sensitivity while reporting on this matter, especially while putting out headlines, videos and images. Also take into account the sensitivity of this operation, the psychological state of family members, and the feelings of the audience in general.
