Dr Sameer Saraf, accused in fake pacemaker scam at Saifai Medical University, arrested

Etawah, 07 November: Dr Sameer Saraf, posted in the Department of Cardiology at Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested and taken to Lucknow after being found guilty in a thorough investigation in the fake pacemaker scam.

Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar said that Saifai Deputy Superintendent of Police Nagendra Choubey has taken the doctor arrested in the pacemaker scam to Lucknow to present him in the anti-corruption court. Due to the arrest of Dr Sameer Saraf, who played with the lives of heart patients by fitting them with fake pacemakers, in the pacemaker scam, Saifai Medical University’s heart patients have recovered more money by fitting them with cheap rate pacemakers, investigation of which has been initiated at the government level. Later, Dr. Adesh Kumar, the then Chief Medical Superintendent of Saifai Medical University, filed a case in Saifai police station.

Dr Sameer Saraf, posted in the Cardiology Department of Saifai Medical University, has recovered crores of rupees by fitting fake pacemakers to more than three hundred heart disease patients.

On Tuesday, Sameer Saraf was arrested and Saifai CO Nagendra Chaubey was taken under tight security to present him in the anti-corruption court of Lucknow.

It is also being said that Sameer Saraf used to collect illegal money from the relatives of the patients in his chamber, the video of which had gone viral. He is accused of installing cheap pacemakers in the name of providing expensive pacemakers to patients.

It is noteworthy that on February 8, 2022, the then Medical Superintendent, Professor Dr Adesh Kumar, has lodged an FIR against Dr Sameer Saraf, Assistant Professor, Cardiology Department of the University, and others at Saifai police station on charges of financial irregularities, causing financial loss to the suffering patients and putting the lives of the patients in danger. A case was registered whose investigation was being done by jurisdictional Nagendra Choubey.

Earlier, on March 20, 2021, the then Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Dr. Rajkumar, suspended Dr. Sameer Saraf, Assistant Professor, Cardiology Department, working in the University, with immediate effect after he was found guilty of financial irregularities, non-performance of duties with integrity and violation of rules. Was suspended.

Apart from this, instructions were given to form an investigation committee of high level external members and conduct a comprehensive investigation. At present, the entire episode is being investigated thoroughly. The first arrest has been made of Dr Sameer Saraf, the decision will be taken after investigation of other accused.

It is noteworthy that Dr Sameer Saraf was working on installing fake pacemakers on heart disease patients in Saifai Medical University,
which is considered to be the only medical university established in a
rural area of the country.
