Lucknow, March 31: On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr in Uttar Pradesh, prayers were offered at major mosques and Eidgahs from 7am onwards. The Muslim people who prayed for peace at the mosques greeted each other by hugging after the prayers.
When prayers were offered at the Eidgah in Aishbagh in the state capital Lucknow, prominent people including Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Rajya Sabha MP Dr Dinesh Sharma, Congress State President Ajay Rai reached there to congratulate. Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali welcomed all the major leaders and dignitaries at the Eidgah.
Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, who reached Eidgah to greet the Muslims, said that I come to Eidgah every year, wish Eid Mubarak and also eat Eid Seviyan. I remember the taste of Seviyan throughout the year. We had followed the tradition of hugging on the festival of Holi and now we will hug you people on Eid. This land teaches us to be patient. Only the one who takes everyone along moves forward on the path of progress and prosperity.
Muslims who reached Teele Wali Masjid and Asifi Masjid located at Bada Imambara in Lucknow to offer Namaz greeted each other. Namaz was offered at other mosques as well. There was a continuous stream of people offering Namaz. During this, people who reached some mosques to offer Namaz had tied a black band on their arms. They were opposing the Waqf Bill.
Eid Namaz was offered at Jama Masjid and other mosques in Sambhal. When prayers were offered for peace in the mosque, a large number of policemen present outside kept a vigilant eye on every inch. Similarly, in Saharanpur and Aligarh districts, some youths waved the flag of Palestine outside the mosques, on which the police officers of the district took immediate action.
In Moradabad and Meerut, policemen stopped the Muslim people who came out of their homes wearing black bands, but they reached the mosque and offered Eid namaz. Policemen tried to stop the Muslim people in case they protested. The people who offered namaz later expressed their views and told their purpose of opposing the Waqf Amendment Bill.
