Embarrassment: SP, BJP councillors boycott Lucknow Municipal Corporation Working Committee meeting

Lucknow, March 10: The Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillors boycotted the meeting of Lucknow Municipal Corporation’s (LMC) Executive and Working Committee. Due to the boycott of councillors, Mayor Sushma Kharkwal postponed the meeting for an hour.

Two SP and six BJP councillors who boycotted the meeting said that the Municipal Corporation administration is not accepting their demands. They had asked for budget as per the requirement of development work in their respective areas, which has been cut. They say that the fund for development work of councillors should be increased.

SP councillor Surendra Valmiki said that Mayor Sushma Kharkwal is running her own arbitrariness in Lucknow, also Municipal Commissioner is also working as per her instructions. The Mayor has her own motive behind cutting the development fund whereas the Municipal Corporation has a liability of four and a half billion.

Earlier, in the important meeting of the financial year 2025-26, Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, Vice President of the Executive Committee Girish Gupta, Councilor Ranjit Singh, Municipal Commissioner Indrajit Singh arrived and made preparations to discuss the budget. Proposals on all the budgets of the Water Works Department and the Municipal Corporation were to be presented in the meeting.
