New Delhi, 06 October: The Supreme Court has refused an early hearing of the Delhi government’s plea against the National Capital Territory of Delhi Act Amendment Act giving more power to the Lieutenant Governor in Delhi.
A bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana said that every day should we hear the cases of Delhi government only.
The Central Government, through a notification, under Section 21 of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi Amendment Act, has said that the Government of Delhi means the Lieutenant Governor. The powers of the Lieutenant Governor have been increased under section 3 of this amendment. Under its section 5, it has been said that it shall be obligatory for the Delhi Government to take the advice of the Lieutenant Governor before taking any executive action.
