Lucknow, 14 Feb: Former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri’s grandson, Vibhakar Shastri, joined the BJP on Wednesday and announced his departure from the Congress.
Vibhakar Shastri joined the BJP in Lucknow with Bhupinder Singh, the party’s state president, and Brajesh Pathak, the deputy chief minister.
In a post on X, Shastri wrote, “Hon’ble Congress President Shri Kharge Ji! Respected Sir, I now resign from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress. Regards, Vibhakar Shastri.” Vibhakar Shastri, grandson of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and son of Hari Krishna Shastri, has previously run unsuccessfully for the Fatehpur Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
In recent years, Ashok Chavan, Milind Deora, Baba Siddiqui, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jitin Prasad, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Sushmita Dev, R P N Singh, and Jaiveer Shergill, among others, have left Congress to join other parties. Pathak stated that Vibhakar Shastri joining the BJP is a positive message for social workers. He stated that because Vibhakar Shastri is related to the former prime minister, the party will naturally gain from the development.
Shastri’s other brother, Siddharth Nath Singh, hailed the decision. Singh is currently a BJP MLA representing Allahabad West.
According to Vibhakar Shastri, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Sabka saath sabka vikas’ motto, which serves as the guiding principle of BJP administrations at the Centre and in the states, is appealing to everyone.
