Gorakhpur, 01 August: The government and administration have started showing speed in the exercise of making village secretariats functional. But even in 24 villages of Gorakhpur district, finding piece of land (PoL) for gram panchayats remains a tedious task. Now the District Panchayat Raj Officer (DPRO) will try to find PoL after talking to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in this regard.
At present, out of the villages where panchayat buildings have not yet been built, land has been received in only 14 villages.
Village secretariats are to be shifted to panchayat buildings. Therefore, the process of construction of new Panchayat buildings, expansion of single room buildings and renovation of old buildings has been expedited.
There are 24 such gram panchayats in the district, where space is not available for construction of buildings. Preparations are underway to talk to the SDMs of the respective tehsils as well.
There are 1294 gram panchayats in the district. Of these, new buildings are to be constructed in 400 gram panchayats. The work of construction of Panchayat Bhawan in 226 has been completed. 136 are under construction. In Panchayat buildings where there is one room, an additional room is being built.
There was no Panchayat building in 38 villages, land got for 14
Land was not available for construction of buildings in 38 gram panchayats. The old pradhans had raised their hands, but the new pradhans have made arrangements for land in 14 panchayats. Now the construction will start here. Despite this, arrangements for land have not yet been made in 24 panchayats in Kaudiram, Bansgaon, Belghat and Gagaha blocks. DPRO Himanshu Shekhar Thakur said that Panchayat Bhawan is to be constructed in all villages. As of now space is not available in 24 villages. The principal and secretary are engaged to provide the land. SDM will also be discussed in this regard. Land exploration work is going on
