Lucknow, 14 February: Uttar Pradesh Police is taking strict action against those who spread misleading videos and photos on social media regarding Maha Kumbh. Within the last one month till today (Friday), strict action has been taken against 75 social media accounts.
Officiating Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar said on Friday that those who spread fake posts and rumours related to Maha Kumbh on social media are being continuously identified and action is being taken against them.
Kumar told that during social media monitoring, it was noticed that a video related to Champawat in Uttarakhand, on a social media account, on which is written ‘Mahakumbh ka nazara, lo ho gaya’, is being deceptively claimed to be from Mahakumbh Prayagraj, spreading the rumour that “stone pelting and fight has taken place in Mahakumbh”. On enquiring about this video, it was found that the video mentioned in the post is related to Devidhura Bagwal Mela (stone war) organized every year in Champawat district of Uttarakhand.
Officer added that by uploading this video, rumours of stone pelting and fight in Mahakumbh are being spread. This has created fear in the minds of people and action has been taken by registering a case in Kotwali Kumbh Mela Police against 22 social media accounts so far, which are trying to defame the devotees coming to Mahakumbh Mela.
The DGP said that from the beginning of Mahakumbh Mela till date, a total of 75 different social media accounts have been identified and FIRs have been registered against them.
