According to mythological belief and tradition, people of all castes, creeds and sects associated with Sanatan faith definitely come to take a holy bath in Maha Kumbh. One of them are the people of Ramnami sect who came from Janjgir, Bhilai, Durg, Balodabazar, Sarangarh of Chhattisgarh.

In the 19th century, when the so-called upper class people of Sanatan culture denied some tribal people of Chhattisgarh the right to enter the temple and idol worship, the tribal people made their body a temple of Ram by inscribing the name of Ram on their entire body.

The beginning of Ramnami sect is believed to be from Parshuram of Janjgir Champa. The followers of this sect get the name of Ram tattooed or engraved on their entire body. They wear white clothes with the name of Ram written on them and a crown made of peacock feathers on their head. They chant the name of Ram and sing the bhajans of the couplets of Manas.

The people of Ramnami sect do not worship temples and idols, they are worshippers of ‘Nirguna’ Ram (unmanifested form of lord Ram). Kaushal Ramnami of Ramnami sect told that people of his sect definitely come to take a holy bath in Maha Kumbh. On the date of Mauni Amavasya, we will all take ‘Amrit Snan’ in Mahakumbh Nagar while chanting Ram’s name.

He told that about 200 Ramnamis have come along with us from Sarangarh, Bhilai, Balod Bazar and Janjgir. Even more people are coming to Prayagraj before Mauni Amavasya. According to tradition, we will take a bath in Triveni Sangam on the day of Mauni Amavasya while chanting Ram’s name. We will return to our areas from Maha Kumbh while singing Ram Bhajans.
