Foreign Covid-19 vaccines approval process to be faster

New Delhi, 13 April: After Russia’s Sputnik-V vaccine has been approved for the emergency use, the practice of allowing another foreign corona vaccines has also intensified. The Central Government has approved this decision taken in the meeting of the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for COVID-19 (NEGVAC) constituted for vaccine approval.

This 23rd meeting was chaired by Dr VK Paul, Member, NITI Aayog. It was decided in the committee that the vaccine present in the World Health Organization’s list of emergency uses can be approved for conditional emergency use in India. These include the vaccine used in the US, UK, Japan. This will further speed up the ongoing vaccination across the country.

The committee suggested that some vaccines being used abroad could be approved for emergency use after a week of trials in 100 people.

It is worth mentioning that at present, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin (Produced and developed in India) and Serum Institute of India’s Covishield (Developed by AstraZeneca and produced by SII) vaccines are being given to people.
