Former Congress leader arrested in Jaunpur in sexual assault case

Jaunpur, 01 September: Ex-Congress party leader Mufti Mehndi arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a house help from Kaziyana locality of Kotwali area.

The victim, a resident of Sheikh Mohammad under Kotwali, had given a written complaint to Kotwali and Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma on Saturday and alleged that Mufti Mehndi, a resident of Kaziyana Kotwali, had been working as a sweeper for 10 years in his house. Mufti Mehndi said that he loved her and would marry her soon. After this, he lured her and had sexual relations with her. She was 15 years old at that time. He used to get me clothes and slippers etc. as assurance. This continued for a long time.

The victim further apprised that when I asked for marriage, he used to avoid it by talking about other things. When I started insisting, Mufti started threatening to kill me and my family members. He threatened me by showing me intimate pictures that if I did not agree to him, he would make them viral. He kept on having relations with me by threatening me by showing me the same pictures. He used to ask me to have relations with other people as well, when I refused, he used to beat me up.

On August 27, at 7 pm, Mufti called me home and asked me to have relations with him, when I refused. Then he beat me up and forcefully had relations with me. He told me that if I tell this to the police, he will kill me along with my family.

In this case, city Congress President Vishal Singh told that Mufti was formerly the Vice President of the city Congress. He resigned on March 26 2022. It is not known whether he is currently a primary member of the party or not. Yes, he has held party posts in the past. No allegation has been proved against him yet.

While talking in this matter, in-charge Kotwal police station Mithilesh Mishra told that Congress leader Mufti Mehndi has been arrested after registering a rape case on the complaint of the maid. He has held various posts in the Congress in the past.
