Motor vehicle documents will be valid till March 31 2021.
Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued consultation to all states and union territories (UTs).
New Delhi, 27 December: The Central Government has extended the validity of documents like driving license, vehicle permit and registration etc. to March 31 2021 to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Thus, this would bring great relief to vehicle owners and drivers whose validity of motor vehicle documents expired on or after February 1, 2020.
However, the validity of all these documents has been extended a fourth time due to Covid-19 and lockdown.
Earlier, the Centre had extended the validity till June 30. After that till September 30 and then till December 31. Now all these documents will be valid till March next year.
The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Sunday issued a consultation to all states and union territories in this regard. It added that, keeping in mind the need to stop the spread of Covid-19, it is advised that the validity of all the above mentioned documents can be considered valid till March 31 2021. This will apply to all vehicle documents whose validity has expired from February 1, 2020 or by March 31, 2021.
It said, enforcement officers are advised to consider such documents valid till March 31 2021. This will help citizens to avail transport related services while maintaining social security.
The Ministry had earlier issued advisories on March 30, 9 June and August 24 this year about the extension of validity of documents relating to the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
It was advised that fitness, validity of permits (all types), license, registration or any other related documents can be considered valid till December 31 2020.
