New Delhi, August 1: The government today (Tuesday) introduced the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, in the Lok Sabha to replace the Services Ordinance relating to appointments and transfers in the National Capital Territory of Delhi.

This bill was introduced by Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai.

Some opposition MPs opposed the bill. In response to the protest, the minister said that the opposition to the bill is only political and has no constitutional basis.

He said that the House has the right to pass any law for the union Territory of Delhi as per the Constitution. The Supreme Court has also supported the same in its decision.

Opposing the bill, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi said a no-confidence motion against the government is pending. In such a situation, the government cannot pay the bill at all.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor opposed the bill, saying it affects the federal structure and gives power to officials instead of people’s representatives.

After this, the opposition MPs in the Lok Sabha came into the middle of the house and started showing placards in protest.

The Speaker warned the MPs that he would name them. After this, the proceedings were adjourned until 3 p.m.
