Delhi, 30 December: The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced that it had designated Canada-based gangster Lakhbir Singh Landa as a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 on Friday.
This move comes as tensions between India and Canada continue to strain following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s claim that Indian involvement led to the killing of wanted Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil. Landa, who is currently residing in Edmonton, was found to be a member of the Babbar Khalsa International, a designated terrorist organization.
According to the intel input he was also involved in numerous criminal activities such as supplying weapons and explosives from across the border, planting IEDs, and conspiring to disrupt peace and law and order in Punjab and other parts of the country.
The MHA cited evidence of Landa’s involvement in a terror attack on the State Intelligence Headquarters in Mohali and his connection to cross-border agencies.
This decision by the MHA serves as a strong warning to those who seek to disrupt peace and stability in India and sends a clear message that the government will take necessary actions against those involved in terrorist activities.
