Delhi, 2 March: According to the India Meteorological Department, the country is expected to experience a warmer summer this year with an increase in the number of heatwave days, due to the continuation of El Nino conditions until at least May.
The IMD also predicts above-normal rainfall in March, which could bring some relief from the scorching heat.
However, most parts of India are likely to see above-normal temperatures in the March to May period, with a higher number of heatwave days predicted in certain regions.
The IMD chief also mentioned that India has recorded the second-highest average minimum temperature in February since 1901 and that eight western disturbances have affected the weather in the western Himalayan states.
As general elections are expected to take place in April-May, it will be crucial for authorities to take measures to combat the effects of rising temperatures and heatwaves. While El Nino conditions are expected to continue through the summer season, there is a possibility of neutral conditions developing thereafter, followed by La Nina conditions in the second half of the monsoon season. It is important for citizens to stay informed and take necessary precautions during this period of higher temperatures and heatwaves.
