Hundreds of Hindu houses, temples attacked in Bangladesh in 4 days, minorities living in fear

Kolkata, August 9: The interim government has been sworn in by appointing Nobel Prize-winning Professor Mohammad Yunus as the Chief Advisor in Bangladesh. However, attacks on the houses, shops and temples of the minority Hindu community are not stopping there. Women are also being targeted.

A list of incidents of attacks on the Hindu community in Bangladesh has been released by the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council and Bangladesh Puja Udyapan Parishad. This list mentions the attacks and atrocities in several districts, which took place between August 5 and August 8, 2024.

Several incidents of attacks have been reported in the capital Dhaka metropolis and its surrounding areas. In particular, three shops were vandalized and destroyed during a gathering near the Sundarban River Nabya Nanuar Temple. Apart from this, several Hindu families were attacked in Jalma Bazaar, in which more than 50 houses were damaged. The attackers beat up family members and misbehaved with women.

Several attacks also took place in Narayanganj district. The criminals targeted the Srilakshmi Narayan temple and nearby Hindu houses. Similarly, attacks on temples and houses also took place in Munshiganj district, where the houses of several Hindu families were attacked near the police station of Sadar Upazila. People of the Hindu community were also attacked in Narsinghdi and Manikganj districts, where several houses were destroyed and temples were vandalized. In Kishoreganj, Hindu families were threatened and their houses were looted.

Hindu families were also targeted in Faridpur district and their houses were damaged. Several Hindu houses were attacked and set on fire in Tangail district. During these attacks, women and children were also tortured and the attackers looted the property. Similarly, there are continuous attacks on the houses of Hindu communities living in almost every district of the country. After all these incidents, there is an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among the people of the Hindu community.
