New Delhi, February 17: An improvised explosives device (IED) was found in old Seemapuri area of Delhi on Thrusday afternoon.
However, the National Security Guard (NSG), other agencies were also called as soon as the IED was confirmed. With the help of the local police, the surrounding area was evacuated and the entire area was barricaded.
In the evening, the NSG team took the IED to a park in Dilshad Garden and diffused it. Traffic was also closed by shutting down the surrounding markets and shops. Senior police officers were also involved in the investigation of the case.
A senior Delhi Police official said that the Special Cell team engaged in the probe of Ghazipur Phool Mandi had received information that some suspects in the case were hiding in the old Seemapuri area. After receiving the news, a team immediately reached the goldsmith street house number-49 at around 1.45 am. The raid was conducted on the second floor of the three-storey house. The room was found locked from outside. When the police broke the door of the room, apart from the black suspicious bag inside, a lot of items were recovered. When the bag was checked, it was suspected to have an IED.
Immediately at around 2.15 pm, the bomb and dog squad were called after giving information to the local police. NSG, FSL, Fire Department, Ambulance were informed only in the afternoon after the bomb was confirmed. The local police were asked to vacate the surrounding area, after barricading the surrounding area, people were removed from there. The team started its work as soon as the NSG reached there. Sources say that the IED was activated and its timer was also on.
The NSG team, which used the bomb defusing machine, safely brought down the bag containing the IED with the help of a diffusing machine at around 7 pm. Around 7.00 a.m. the NSG team brought the bomb to a big park located in J&K block of Dilshad Garden. Nearby shops and markets were closed there.
Apart from this, the oncoming traffic was closed there. The NSG team was preparing to deactivate the pit by digging it. Two fire engines, ambulances and other agencies were present on the spot.
After preliminary investigation, it was found that the four youths had taken the room on rent from a landlord named Asim two months back.
Apart from the landlord, the police are interrogating the people around. After initial probe, it was found that the accused Asim had kept the suspects in the room at the behest of a property dealer. Police is also looking for that property dealer. The police have come to know about the photographs of the four accused and their original residence. Half a dozen teams have been sent to Delhi and UP in search of the suspects.
