New Delhi, March 17: The Supreme Court has said in an important judgement that a daughter cannot claim any expenses from her father who does not maintain a good relationship with him. A bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul gave this order.

The court was hearing a case of divorce between husband and wife. The court, while granting the divorce, directed the husband to pay a final compensation of Rs 10 lakh to his wife within two months.

In the hearing of the same case, the court also gave its verdict on the expenses of the daughter of both.

The court said that their daughter is 20 years old and she does not want to continue with her father.

The court further said that the daughter is free to choose the path of maintaining her relationship with the father, but she cannot claim the cost of her education.

Both the husband and wife were married in 1998 and a daughter was born to them in 2001. The wife is living separately from her husband. The wife had alleged that her husband demanded dowry from her and eloped her from her in-laws’ house in 2004. The daughter was living with her mother since birth.
