New Delhi, 02 December: On the very first day of the ongoing campus placements at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, the companies of the country and the overseas offered a annual package of crores of rupees to 419 students. It also includes 175 pre-placement offers. It shows that the alleged economic  downturn is completely ineffective for the students of the IIT Delhi as far as employment opportunities are concerned.
IIT has not made public the information about the package of students due to its special policy. According to information received from the institute, Microsoft has given the highest placement offers to the students. The company has offered jobs to 30 students including two internationals. Intel is second in this case. The company has offered domestic jobs to 27 students. Other international offers include one from Uber USA and the other from Square Point Singapore. Apart from this, 16 offers have been given by Qualcomm and 12 offers by Goldman Sachet.
More than 400 small and foreign companies participated in the placement season. The companies are offering students employment opportunities on more than 600 profiles in various fields including core, consulting, information technology, finance, analytics and research and research.
The core (technical) and information technology (IT) sectors were at the top in terms of giving jobs to students and followed by finance. 86 students got jobs in core sector. Last year too, 92 students got the maximum jobs in this field. In the IT sector, 81 students were offered jobs. Last year too, the region was in second place with 64 offers. 42 students were employed in consulting and 21 in finance sector.
Talking about the employment of the core sector in this December placement, it is the highest at 35 percent. This is followed by the IT sector with 33 per cent and 17 per cent in the consulting sector. In other sectors, this figure is six percent.
It is noteworthy that the current placement season will run from December 2019 to May 2019. The registration process for this started in the month of August.
