Kanpur, June 9: The worrisome rise in instances of heart attacks among those participating in physical activities such as dancing and playing has generated worry and inspired IIT Kanpur to launch a study programme.
There has been a considerable increase in the number of middle-aged persons suffering from abrupt heart attacks in the last one to two years, often culminating in fatalities documented on viral recordings. Experts have been baffled by these instances, unable to pinpoint the specific cause of these unexpected heart attacks.
In light of this, IIT Kanpur has launched a comprehensive study effort to assess the issue. The institute will partner with other famous universities and invite heart attack specialists from around the world.
As part of the programme, a specific detection device for detecting early indicators of heart attacks is also being created. The Gangwal School of Medical Science and Technology at IIT Kanpur, which is now under development, will lead the effort to understand the underlying causes of heart attacks during physical activities.
The device will be able to warn people of the potential of a heart attack. This system will employ a Cardio Electrophysiology Simulator based on sophisticated MRI and ECG scan data.
In this project, IIT Kanpur will collaborate with organisations such as the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI).
Qualified doctors and scientists with a PhD in engineering or other scientific subject have been invited. By June 22, the screening procedure for choosing the research team will be concluded. In Kanpur, a young man died unexpectedly after suffering a heart attack while sprinting on a cricket pitch.
A security guard died of a heart attack while having lunch in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh. Similarly, a young man fainted while dancing during a celebratory event at a relative’s wedding in Maharashtra’s Nanded, succumbing to a heart attack within seconds.
