New Delhi, March 22: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that India has emerged as one of the largest vaccine manufacturing industries in the world, supplying vaccines to more than 150 countries.
He said that India meets 65-70 percent of the World Health Organization’s vaccine requirements. Not only this, India is ready to take forward its strong vaccine manufacturing industry to develop vaccines for BRICS countries (China, Brazil, and Russia).
Mansukh Mandaviya said this on the sidelines of launching the BRICS Vaccine Research and Development Center and Workshop on Vaccine Collaboration through video-conferencing on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mandaviya said that this center will help in linking together the complementary benefits of BRICS countries in vaccine research and development and will boost the capacity of BRICS countries to prevent infectious diseases. This will include basic R&D, preclinical and clinical studies.
The Union Health Minister said that in the midst of the Corona global pandemic, the efforts to launch this center is a commendable step and further strengthens the commitment of the BRICS countries towards the global pandemic response.
