India offers Taliban-led Afghanistan the use of Chabahar port: Foreign Ministry

New Delhi, 7 November: For the first time since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan, an Indian delegation has met key ministers and officials there. In this, India has offered the use of Chabahar port in Iran to the business community in Afghanistan.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal gave this information in a weekly press conference today.

He said that a delegation led by Joint Secretary JP Singh, in-charge of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran in the Ministry of External Affairs, visited Kabul on November 4 and 5. During the visit, he held several meetings with Afghan ministers, including the acting Defense Minister. He also met former President Hamid Karzai. He also met the heads of United Nations agencies and several other senior ministers there.

Giving details of the talks held during this time, he said that the delegation discussed India’s humanitarian assistance. Also discussed how Chabahar port can be used by the business community in Afghanistan for transactions, exports and imports and anything else.

The spokesperson reminded that providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan is an important part of India’s assistance program and so far several shipments of humanitarian assistance have been sent in the last few months and few years.

He said that India has a long-standing relationship with Afghanistan. The people of Afghanistan and these relations will continue to guide our approach towards Afghanistan.
