Kathmandu, July 14: Nepal is getting maximum benefit of the electricity trade agreement between Nepal and India. At present, a record 800 MW electricity is being exported from Nepal, which is earning billions of rupees for Nepal.

At present, more than 800 MW electricity is being sold to India on a daily basis by Nepal Electricity Authority. On Saturday, information has been given about selling the highest ever 810 MW electricity. The Executive Director of the Authority, Kulman Ghising, while expressing happiness over this electricity trade, said that electricity trade is making the most important contribution to Nepal’s economy.

Executive Director Ghising said that in the last one week, electricity ranging from 780 MW to 810 MW has been exported from Nepal. For the last three days, i.e. from Thursday, the figure of electricity export is crossing 800 MW. According to Kulman Ghising, at present permission has been received from the Power Trading Corporation of India for export of 1000 MW electricity and the matter of getting approval for export of 190 MW electricity is in the final stage.

Last year, in the same month, maximum 600 MW electricity was exported. In the middle of summer months, the export of electricity had reduced, but due to increase in power generation after the arrival of monsoon, a record amount of electricity is being exported at this time. There is every possibility of it reaching 1000 MW in the coming days.

About 190 MW electricity is being exported from Nepal to the Central Transmission Line of India, the price of which has been kept at Rs 5.25 (Nepali 8.40) per unit. While the rest of the electricity is being sold at Rs 6 (Nepali 9.40) per unit on the basis of day ahead competition in the Energy Exchange of India. In India, electricity is being purchased from Nepal by Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
