New Delhi, February 13: The Indian Army has denied any ceasefire violation on the Pakistan border. There has been no exchange of firing with heavy-caliber weapons from both sides on the border. Minor incidents on the Line of Control are not unprecedented. Concern has been expressed to the Pakistani Army at the appropriate level.
This statement of the Army came at a time when information was received about ceasefire violation by the Pakistani Army on the Line of Control (LOC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday evening.
Reports said that Pakistani soldiers opened fire without provocation, after which the Indian Army gave a befitting reply. There is no immediate report of any casualties or damage on the Indian side.
The Army said in a statement on Thursday that the ceasefire on the Line of Control is intact and is being followed as agreed between the Indian and Pakistani armies. The tension due to some sporadic incidents of cross-line firing and a suspected IED blast on the LoC is being dealt with through established mechanisms. There has been no exchange of fire from heavy-caliber weapons. Minor incidents on the LoC are not unprecedented. Concerns have been raised with the Pakistan Army at the appropriate level.
In fact, a suspected IED blast took place near a post in Bhattal area in Akhnoor sector on the LoC in Jammu district on Tuesday at around 3.50 pm. The Army’s White Knight Corps said in a post that two soldiers were martyred in a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) blast during patrolling near the fence in Laleli of Akhnoor sector. One of the martyred soldiers was Naik Mukesh, a resident of Kamila village in Samba district of Jammu division and the other was Captain Karamjit Singh Bakshi, a resident of Jharkhand, whose bodies have been sent to their native villages.
Officials said that after the blast, a search operation has been started by cordoning off the entire area. For the past few days, attempts are being made by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists to infiltrate along the Line of Control in Poonch district, which the security forces are constantly foiling. Therefore, the army today said that the situation on the border remains stable and it is being closely monitored. The Indian Army is maintaining high vigilance and dominance on the Line of Control.
