New Delhi, September 5: In the official invitation letter sent by President Draupadi Murmu to the leaders of G20 countries for dinner at ‘Bharat Mandapam’ on September 9, this time the address ‘President of Bharat’ has been used for them. Earlier, there was a tradition of writing the President of India.
The politics of favour and opposition started after the use of the word India in the official invitation letter from Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that Rashtrapati Bhavan has sent an invitation in the name of the ‘President of India’ for the G20 dinner on September 9. According to Article 1 of the Constitution, “India, that is, India, shall be a union of States, but now this ?Union of States? is also under attack.
He further wrote that Modi may continue to distort history and divide India, which is India, which is a union of states. But we will not be deterred. After all, what is the purpose of Indian parties? This is India?bringing harmony, friendship, reconciliation, and trust. India will join, and India will win!
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said, however, that there is no constitutional objection to calling India Bharat”, which is one of the country’s two official names.
He hopes the government won’t be foolish enough to completely get rid of “India”, which has immense brand value built up over centuries. We should continue to use both terms rather than give up our claim to history, a name that is recognised throughout the world.
It is noteworthy that recently, in a programme in Assam, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat appealed to the people to use the word Bharat for the country instead of India.
Cricket player Virender Sehwag says that he has always believed that the name should be such that it creates pride in us. We are Indians; India is a name given by the British, and it has taken a long time to officially get back our original name, ‘Bharat’. I urge BCCI and Jaishah to ensure that our players have India on their chests in this World Cup.
He further said that in the 1996 World Cup, the Netherlands came to India to play as Holland in the World Cup. When we met him in 2003, he was in the Netherlands, and he is there now. Burma has changed the name given by the British back to Myanmar, and many others have reverted to their original names.
BJP MP Harnath Singh Yadav has also given a similar statement. He says that the British used to torture us with the name India, whereas the name Bharat represents our culture. We should amend the Constitution and keep the name India.
