Delhi, 29 December: Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar has rejected the request made by AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal to appoint Raghav Chadha as the party’s interim leader in the Upper House of Parliament.

Citing the ‘The Leaders and Chief Whips of Recognised Parties and Groups in Parliament (Facilities) Act. 1998’ and its rules, which dictate the appointment of interim leaders, Dhankhar stated that Kejriwal’s request was not in accordance with the applicable legal regime and thus, could not be granted.

Earlier, Kejriwal had asked for Chadha’s appointment as floor leader Sanjay Singh was in judicial custody. However, with Dhankhar’s refusal, Singh will continue to remain the leader of AAP in the Rajya Sabha.
