New Delhi, 13 June: Jamiat-Ulema-e-Hind has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a direction not to do any further bulldozer action without following the law, amid the alleged controversial statement against Prophet Muhammad.
Also, it has been demanded in the petition that action should be taken against the officers who demolished the houses without following any legal process.
This petition of Jamiat-Ulema-e-Hind has been filed in the context of the petition filed against the demolition of shops and houses in Jahangirpuri, Delhi. The Supreme Court has stayed the action to remove the encroachment in Jahangirpuri.
In this new petition filed by advocates Kabir Dixit and Sarim Naved, it has been said that a direction be issued prohibiting taking any action outside the law for causing damage to the residential and commercial properties of the accused in Kanpur violence.
The petition said that some objectionable statements were made by the two leaders, which led to communal tension in many parts of the country. A bandh was called in Kanpur city in protest against the statements of these two leaders. There was an incident of stone pelting between two communities on the day of the bandh. After this, other officials, including the Chief Minister of the state, made a public statement that the properties of the culprits would be attached and they would be razed.
It has been said in the petition that the houses of the accused cannot be demolished without giving notice and hearing their side.
