Budaun, 21 March: The brother of the main accused in the murder of two children surrendered to a police station in Bareilly on Thursday.

A video footage that leaked online shows Javed begging with a group of people confronting him to bring him to the police. Javed, who had been at large since the killings on Tuesday, surrendered at the Satellite Police outpost of Baradari Police Station in Bareilly, according to Budaun Senior Superintendent of Police Alok Priyadarshi.

“Javed, the brother of primary accused Sajid, was apprehended by a police force in neighboring Bareilly. He is being brought to the district for further questioning,” the SSP stated.

Javed escaped to Delhi following the incident and then came to Bareilly to surrender to the police. The footage was reportedly filmed at an autorickshaw stall near the police station. “I had nothing to do with the occurrence. My eldest brother’s name Sajid. He did that but I have nothing to do with it,” Javed is heard stating.

Sajid, who had recently established a barbershop in the neighborhood, reportedly attacked Ayush (12), Ahaan nicknamed Honey (8), and Yuvraj (10) with a knife. Ayush and Ahaan perished, while Yuvraj was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Sajid was shot killed by police hours after his murder. Javed escaped and evaded capture till his arrest on Thursday.

Police have charged both Sajid and Javed with murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. The district administration has also initiated a magisterial investigation into Sajid’s police encounter. “The report on the encounter has to be submitted within 15 days,” Badaun District Magistrate Manoj Kumar stated.

Late Wednesday evening, the police offered a Rs 25,000 reward for Javed’s arrest. Vinod Kumar, the children’s father, hailed the police for arresting Javed and demanded harsh punishment for him. Kumar stated that he should be questioned about the event and who was involved, as it is not the fault of a single individual. “He is equally implicated in the crime. They may sever anyone’s neck. He should face the worst possible consequences.

“He must be ‘encountered’ or executed,” he declared. Kumar also appealed for police protection for his family. On Thursday, a group of Samajwadi Party leaders, led by Aditya Yadav, visited with the boys’ family members. Aditya Yadav, Shivpal Singh Yadav’s son, stated, “The Samajwadi Party is supporting the family members during these difficult times. We must all work to guarantee that the family receives justice. Shivpal Yadav is the SP’s contender for the Badaun seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
