Moradabad, January 21: The Judicial Inquiry Commission team, constituted to investigate the ruckus during the Jama Masjid survey in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh last November, visited the violence-hit area on Tuesday.
The commission talked to the officials and local people and got information about the incident. The inquiry commission included retired High Court judge DK Arora, former DGP AK Jain and former Additional Chief Secretary Amit Mohan Prasad.
It is worth mentioning that violence and ruckus took place at three places during the survey on November 24, 2024 at Jama Masjid in Sambhal. The first violence took place near the Jama Masjid, where five people lost their lives. The second riot took place at Nakhasa Tiraha, where stones were pelted and firing was done on the police. After this, the third violence took place in Hindupura Kheda, where police officers were attacked.
The investigation commission team, formed on the instructions of the state government, took inputs from Divisional Commissioner Anjaneya Kumar Singh and Deputy Inspector General of Police Muniraj ji, besides Moradabad divisional and district level officials, at the Circuit House in Moradabad before going to Sambhal on Tuesday. After this, the spot was inspected for an hour. After that, the hearing was held at the PWD guest house. After the hearing, the commission will prepare the investigation report.
In the case of violence and murder of five people during the Sambhal riot, the police recently arrested an accused Mulla Afroz two days ago. So far 72 rioters have been arrested in this incident. Many named and suspected accused related to the riot are still absconding. Non-bailable warrants have also been issued for some absconding accused. Most of these people are currently absconding from the district.
During the police investigation, it has been revealed that the conspiracy of the riot over the survey of Jama Masjid in the month of November was hatched abroad.
