Kanpur, 1 Nov: A husband working as a driver in Saudi Arabia gave triple talaq to his wife over the phone. The only fault of the wife was that she had got her eyebrows threading done in a salon for a domestic function.
The entire family including the victim is in shock after triple talaq was given over phone just 21 months after marriage.
It is alleged that her mother-in-law and in-laws have a big role in continuously provoking her husband.
The police are taking the matter lightly. Despite the passage of a long time, no action was taken against the accused in-laws.
The victim woman, living in Kuli Bazaar of Dashahinaka police station area, told media persons on Wednesday that in January 2022, her parents arranged marriage with Salim son of Mohammad Islam, resident of Kohna Phulpur, Prayagraj. Her mother says that despite living in a one-room rented house in Kuli Bazar, her cancer-stricken husband late Manzoor Alam instead of getting himself treated, had saved money for his daughter’s dowry, so that she could live a happy life after marriage. He gave away his entire life’s earnings for the marriage of his only daughter.
According to the victim’s mother, there was no expense spared in the marriage. Despite this, only after three months of marriage, when the daughter’s husband Salim went to Saudi for a job, her mother-in-law Muzaffari, sister-in-law Rukhsar, brother-in-law Saif and Saqib and father-in-law started harassing the daughter fiercely. They started demanding a Maruti car as dowry.
She told further, meanwhile, daughter’s father Manzoor Alam died of cancer. The family proved to be helpless and unable to provide dowry or a car. Due to this, inhuman types of restrictions were imposed in the maternal home. Then the husband himself called and asked the daughter to go to her maternal home and stay.
Meanwhile, last August the husband returned for four months. Daughter and son-in-law lived together happily. But as soon as the son-in-law returned, his in-laws started harassing her again. They started provoking the son-in-law on the phone by saying false things about his wife. Here they started harassing their daughter again. After this the daughter came back to her parents’ home.
Meanwhile, on October 4, the son-in-law made a video call to his wife living in her maternal home. It was time for a family function. Salim suddenly got angry after seeing his wife getting her eyebrows done on video call. He disconnected the video call and made a voice call and after getting she got her eyebrows threading done, he divorced her by saying ‘talaq’ thrice over the phone on the grounds of disobedience.
When the victim was given triple talaq on such a simple matter, her entire family was shocked. Despite repeated attempts, he did not agree and in-laws instigated further.
The victim first lodged a complaint with the police through the Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS). Then she reached the commissioner’s office and gave the application. Yet even after several days have passed, the police have sat down only by sending notices to the accused. No action was taken for three weeks. Meanwhile, the accused in-laws themselves reached the Sharia court.
According to the victim’s mother, the in-laws are now not ready to give anything back to the daughter to spend the rest of her life. How will his she lead her? The police is also sitting like this and the victim is in shock.
Joint Police Commissioner Anand Prakash Tiwari said that the matter has come to his notice. Further action will be taken after investigation.
