Mumbai, March 24: Angry over the sarcastic comment on Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Shiv Sena workers vandalized a hotel in Khar area of โโMumbai and registered a case against stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra. A case has been registered against more than 40 Shiv Sena workers in Khar Police Station for vandalism in the hotel. Police have arrested 11 Shiv Sainiks including Rahul Kanal in this case.
Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam said that everyone has the freedom of expression, but no one has the right to insult anyone. Action is being taken against those who vandalized the hotel in this case. Similar action will also be taken against comedian Kunal Kamra. Police is searching for Kunal Kamra.
Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik told reporters that this stand-up comedian has insulted the Deputy Chief Minister, so the role of Shiv Sainiks is right, but action will be taken in this matter under the law. Sarnaik said that he has instructed the police officers to take appropriate action in this matter.
On the Kunal Kamra controversy, Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora said that comedy is an important part of any society. Balasaheb Thackeray himself was a cartoonist, he himself believed in using comedy and humor, but there is a lot of difference between being a classist, elitist, paid agent and trying to save a party. These people have been rejected by the people of Maharashtra and India and it is very clear who these people are working for and why they are working for them.
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said that there is freedom to do stand-up comedy, but if it is being done deliberately to defame our Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, then it is not right. People have shown their place to those who insulted the mandate and ideology of Balasaheb Thackeray. One can create humor, but making insulting statements cannot be accepted. One cannot encroach upon the freedom and ideology of others. This cannot be justified as freedom of expression.
In fact, during a stand-up show at Hotel Unicontenant in Khar on Sunday, comedian Kunal Kamra made sarcastic comments on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for changing parties. Angered by this, Shiv Sainiks attacked and vandalized the venue late at night. After this, the team of Khar Police Station has registered a case of vandalism in the hotel and started investigation.
