Lockdown 4.O Day 4: 73% deaths due to Covid-19 have occurred in people above 60 years with co-morbid conditions: Ministry of Health

New Delhi, May 21: Global pandemic novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) currently has 63,624 active cases in the country.

However, all patients infected with lethal virus are under strict medical care, however, of these, 2.94 percent cases are in Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The rate of cases recovering from highly contagious disease is improving.

So far, 40.32 percent people who were infected with the virus that are around 45,299 people have recovered and gone to their respective homes.

The death rate of corona in the country is half the world rate of 3.06 percent. It is 6.6 percent in the world.

According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 64 percent of the deaths from Covid-19 are male and 36 percent are female. The lowest 0.5 percent of deaths from Corona occurred in the under 15 age group. 2.5 percent deaths have been reported in 15–30 years of age, 11.4% in the 30–45 years age group, and 35.1% in 45–60 years of age. 50.5% deaths have been reported in the age group above 60 years.    

It is noteworthy that overall 73 per cent of the deaths have occurred in people above 60 years of age with severe diseases like co-morbid (multiple health disorders in same person) conditions, like heart disease, kidney and diabetes. Therefore, these people are at the highest risk of coronavirus.
