Lucknow, 30 April: In a stinging attack on the Congress party, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi said on Tuesday that the grand old party has sought to stifle the Constitution drafted by Babasaheb Ambedkar from the outset.

Adityanath’s remarks came amid assertions by opposition parties, notably the Congress that the BJP’s “400-paar” slogan wants to change the Constitution and eliminate reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and backward classes.

There could hardly be a greater deception than the opposition’s accusations. Adityanath told reporters in Gorakhpur that everyone is familiar with the history of the Congress, the Samajwadi Party, and other INDIA bloc parties.

Congress has a history of throttling Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Constitution. The Constitution was adopted in 1950, yet Congress has continued to stomp on freedom of expression. Even after that, there were ongoing efforts to utilize the Constitution in its (Congress’) own manner,? he asserted. The Uttar Pradesh chief minister further labeled the Congress as anti-people and stated that it never attempted to respect public mood.

Adityanath recalled the suspension of constitutional provisions to impose the Emergency in 1975 by the Indira Gandhi-led government, saying that even now, the people of the nation have not forgotten it. It was also like strangling the Constitution. People in the country also recall the misdeeds done by the Congress under the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) administration.

He noted that the Congress’s supporters in the UPA were the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party. He stated that the people of the country will not accept the Congress, Samajwadi Party, and the INDIA bloc’s goal of granting quota to a single religious minority.

He said that such a move would jeopardize the constitutional structure and intrude on quotas for backward classes and scheduled castes.

The BJP is fiercely opposed to any type of religious reservation since the common people bore the pain of religious split during partition. The BJP strongly supports reservation privileges for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes, he stated.

Adityanath further asserted that the Congress leadership has shown to be a total failure.

Even members of Congress do not trust their leaders. This is clear when Congress candidates withdraw from electoral campaigns in certain regions, state unit leaders quit, and, in some cases, declared candidates withdraw their candidacies and join the BJP, he stated.

In their despair, the surviving Congress leaders are resorting to unfounded and fabricated charges,” CM opined.
