Varanasi, 13 May: On Monday evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off a six-kilometre tour in Varanasi. Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, accompanied him.
Before launching his roadshow, Modi garlanded the statue of educationist and social reformer Madan Mohan Malviya at Malviya Chauraha in the Lanka region.
According to BJP officials, Modi will also take a bath in the Ganga. On Tuesday, he will file nomination papers for this Lok Sabha constituency.
The prime minister is running for a third term in a row in the seat, which will be contested in the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha election on June 1. A big group of women dressed in saffron, personifying ‘matrashakti’, marched ahead of the van in which Modi lead the road show.
The tour will continue up to Kashi Vishwanath Dham. It will go through Sant Ravidas Gate, Assi, Shivala, Sonarpura, Jangambadi, and Godaulia. According to party insiders, Modi planned to spend the night at the BLW guesthouse. He will go to the guesthouse from the Kashi Vishwanath Dham, with his convoy passing via Maidagin Chauraha, Kabirchaura, Lahurabir, Teliabagh Tiraha, Chowkaghat Chauraha, Lakdi Mandi, Cantt Overbridge, Lahartara Chauraha, Manduwadih Chauraha, and Kakarmatta Overbridge.
BJP officials further stated that individuals from various communities, including Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Maheshwari, Marwari, Tamil, and Punjabi, will greet Modi at 100 locations across 11 zones during the tour.
The prime minister was greeted with conches and beats of ‘dhols’ and ‘damrus’ here.
Prime Minister Modi will also go to seek Baba Vishwanath’s blessings, according to BJP officials. Along the roadshow route, cutouts of Kashi’s renowned personalities have been erected.
